The Nemesis of Crime is back in a new limited series by writer Max Bemis (Moon Knight, Polarity) this October!

In this series, Bob Benton aka the Black Terror, is living in the 1970s and contending with his post-war mental health as well as the rapidly evolving social landscape around him. Say Anything band frontman and acclaimed comics writer Bemis is joined by artists Matt Gaudio (John Wick, Bettie Page) and Ruairí Coleman (Cloak & Dagger, Turok). Rounding out the team on colors and letters are Brittany Pezzillo (Bettie Page, Green Hornet) and Taylor Esposito.

Each issue of the series acts as both the next chapter and a standalone deep dive into the Black Terror's life and the chaotic 1970s setting. Fans can expect to see Black Terror's infamous plain-named sidekick Tim, cult leaders, mobsters, experimental drugs and more. Bemis has described the title as a bit of an Alan Moore take, but less depressing and with some 70s Batman DNA.

Writer Max Bemis said, "I loved working with Dynamite on our take on Atari's Centipede and they were kind enough to let my imagination run wild in terms of how I interpreted that world. They've let me go just as nuts with Black Terror, an awesomely designed and conceived vigilante who has never gotten a chance to venture into weirdness. If you're a fan of Swamp Thing or Sandman and making a "conventional" superhero go all wacky, but maybe want a bit more humor with your psychedelic, this is the book for you!"

“Being able to work with Max and the whole creative team on this vision of the Black Terror has been an absolute pleasure," said artist Matt Gaudio. "Those guys allowed me the freedom to interpret it as it played out in my head and I had a lot of fun with it, so I hope that comes through in the art! Without giving away too much, Bob Benton’s got a full plate, and readers are going to get a good look at what makes this guy tick as he deals with all the weird, messed-up things going on around him. It’s dark and it’s funny and it’s Black Terror like we’ve never seen him before.”

“It's been so much fun drawing Black Terror thanks to Max," said Ruairi Coleman. "His wicked sense of humor has me drawing some pretty outlandish things that I really didn't expect. Yet he still manages to keep the stories engaging and meaningful. I can't recommend this series enough – it's shaping up to be something special.”

Editor Kevin Ketner added, "I was going to head the route of ultimate cliché and declare, ‘This isn’t your grandfather’s superhero!’ but…it is. It’s the same guy. Just in a different time and place, and we get to see him in a way that we haven’t before. Probably in a way that will make people hope no one they are close to is secretly a crime fighting vigilante. It’s bad for the knuckles. And everyone’s mental health. All that being said, the best part about working on this book is that I pretty much wear a black shirt every day already, so adding Terror’s skull and crossbones logo is not only easy, I can write it off as a business expense. Right?”

Dating back to the Golden Age, the Black Terror was created in 1941 by Richard E. Hughes and Don Gabrielson. Under the hero’s stark costume is pharmacist Bob Benton, who developed a formula which granted him powers. Often joined by his sidekick Tim, the pair vowed to stamp out evil during the war. Such legendary creators as Batman artist and Joker creator Jerry Robinson and world renowned novelist Patricia Highsmith (Strangers on a Train, The Talented Mr. Ripley) contributed to his original stories. His tales continue today in series published by Dynamite.

This terrific tale is wrapped in terrifying covers by some of the best artists in comics. Actually, they aren't too scary. Francesco Francavilla (Shape of Elvira, Black Panther) contributes the most haunting of the bunch. While Jorge Fornés (Batman) has some fun with the skull & crossbones emblem for some pirate themed fun. David Nakayama (Spider-Man: City at War, Ant-Man & the Wasp) inspires some terror with his cover. Erica Henderson (Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Assassin Nation) has Mr. Benton flying high. Adam Gorham (Rocket Raccoon, Jughead: The Hunger) rounds out the superpowered squad with a brooding rooftop Terror.

Black Terror #1 will be solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ August 2019 Previews catalog, the premier source of merchandise for the comic book specialty market, and slated for release in October 2019. Comic book fans are encouraged to preorder copies with their local comic book retailers. It will also be available for individual customer purchase through digital platforms courtesy of Comixology, Kindle, iBooks, Google Play, Dynamite Digital, ComicsPlus, and more!

Earlier this week, Marvel proudly announced that Storm, one of comic books’ most iconic super heroes, will be joining the Avengers this August! It’s the first step in what promises to be a renaissance for the beloved character as Marvel will also be launching an all-new STORM solo ongoing series in October! Set in the X-Men’s highly anticipated From the Ashes era, STORM will be brought to life by Murewa Ayodele, the acclaimed writer behind Akogun: Brutalizer of Gods who made his Marvel debut last year with Moon Knight: Black, White & Blood and I Am Iron Man, and Lucas Werneck, the superstar artist known for his work on recent X-Men epics like Immortal X-Men and Sins of Sinister. Werneck also designed a stunning new costume for Storm’s exciting new venture into solo storytelling! Storm has always been a prime protector of the planet. With the loss of Krakoa, that position becomes more important to her than ever. From her new super hero headquarters, Storm begins making decisions that will forecast the future of the Marvel Universe. Her bold actions will stir forces around and even beyond Earth, calling forth enemies that match her strength and determination. Storm has never needed a throne to rule the skies. Now, watch in awe as this new series elevates her to the heights that only she can reach! Ororo Munroe has lived many lives. She’s been a thief, a goddess, an X-Man, a queen, and now…an Avenger! She is the most prominent, most respected and most powerful mutant on the world stage—and in that role, she intends to be a force for positive change. First up: a major meltdown at a nuclear facility in Oklahoma City draws Storm from her Sanctuary in Atlanta—and into a moral conflict that will test her iron resolve! As one of the year’s biggest launches, it’ll be packed with guest stars including Storm’s fellow Avengers, X-Factor’s Frenzy, and more! On the challenges Storm will face, Ayodele said, "As a fan of Storm, her duties to the X-Men, and what she stands for in various real-world communities, I would like to assure the audience that Storm is in danger. Extremely so. We love Ororo Munroe, and that is why we have crafted a thrilling story that will put the strength of her character on wide-open display. But when you’re an Omega-level mutant, few things can test your limits, and even fewer things can shatter those limits. For our STORM series, one thing we would like fans to remember is that there are threats that are beyond Omega. Prepare yourselves for an extraordinary display of superheroism that leaves knuckles bloody, knees bashed in, and mountains cratered. "We are building towards gargantuan conflicts that will shake the universe from Planet Earth to the Dimension of Manifestations,” Ayodele continued. “We are crafting stories filled to the brim with humanity, love, mystery, adventure, heartbreak, and ALL-OUT ACTION. Tom Brevoort, the editor behind Marvel’s most universe-shattering events, Lucas Werneck, the incredible artist known for his genius-level attention to design and character work, and I are cooking with supernovas on this series. So join us on this journey that promises to be exciting till the bitter-sweet end. Get ready for an ETERNAL STORM." "I still can't believe that Marvel gave me this gift,” Werneck added. “Storm is a character that I love, and I have so much respect for what this character represents to people. We’re working with so much love and devotion on this project, and I hope that fans enjoy it as much as we're enjoying making it.” Drawn by acclaimed artist Mateus Manhanini, the series’ covers will be just as breathtaking as Storm’s feats! The dust was just beginning to settle and the smell of guzzolene was still in the air after Wednesday night’s high-octane Cannes premiere of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. But after more than a decade of development and a grueling shoot, the work was not done for filmmaker George Miller and stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, who faced the international press during a lively conference to discuss the long journey to their Fury Road prequel. Australian filmmaker Miller has now made five Mad Max films over 45 years, but none have been as anticipated as Furiosa. That’s thanks to the pedigree of Fury Road, Miller’s 2015 film that introduced the world to Imperator Furiosa, played in that feature by Charlize Theron. It is considered one of the greatest action movies of all time and became a surprise awards season juggernaut that won six Oscars. “There are certainly other stories there. Mainly because in order to tell the story of Fury Road, we had to know the backstory of Furiosa and Max in the year before,” said Miller when asked if he has more Mad Max movies left in the tank. “That was a tool for the cast and crew. We know the Max story from the year before. I’ll definitely wait to see how this [Furiosa] goes, before we even think about it.” So far, the reception has been promising. On Wednesday night, Furiosa received a seven-minute standing ovation, one that potentially could have lasted longer as Miller took the microphone to speak, which had the perhaps unintended effect of silencing the applause.
