Boy howdy! Eman could knock a robot-based comic out of the park. The Star Cars are something Garth Ennis invented for Jennifer Blood, a fairly standard-sounding aimed-at-boys commercial-for-toys thing that popped up once or twice in the background. I’m treating it here like Transformers – I love the moustache on the Optimus Prime figure – but I imagine there’s all sorts of other nonsense in there as well, little lifts from Mask, He-Man... at some point I’ll give it a decent skewering... One of the best moments in the 2024 Academy Awards show as the teaming of Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger to present an award because they had both tried to “kill Batman.” The two actors are good friends and have been talking about doing another film together, that is according to DeVito who talked about it on the red carpet for Poolman. “We really want to work together and we’ve been talking about it for quite a while. We’re onto something now, we have a script being written. As soon as that comes in, we’ll know better. But we’ll do it at Warner Brothers, so there you go.” He didn’t go into details, so this could be something new or a sequel to one of their previous endeavors like Twins or Junior. They had previously discussed a sequel to Twins, but: “When we lost Ivan (director Reitman), rest his soul, we were about to work with him again on a sequel for Twins. I think where my head is — and I think Arnold’s in the same spot — we want to work together. We want to do another movie together, whether it’s a sequel or a new element that’s another story. With Furiosa, Chris Hemsworth is jumping into an existence franchise after having made a name for himself with Thor. But how different is it working on the George Miller directed project from his time in the MCU? “It’s like (what) Kevin Feige has to those films, a depth of knowledge and importance of it all, it feels very familiar . There’s nothing accidental on screen, it has a purpose or needs a purpose.” This is also he first change to play a villain, but Hemsworth had his own approach to that. “I wanted there to be some humanity in him, I didn’t want to see him as the villain. He’s a survivor. He’s doing his best to make it through the next 24 hours like anyone else is. He’s product of The Wasteland. Even though Jeremy Renner has recovered enough from his horrific snowplow accident to return to work, he’s not back fully yet and some changes needed to be made to his work schedule. Renner spoke about the differences of working on The Mayor of Kingstown to the L.A. Times, “They go, ‘And action!’ And I was out. We realized they worked me too hard, too many hours, too many days in a row. What I’m willing to do is everything, but what I’m able to do is a different thing. They have to treat me like treat me like I’m a child actor. The mayor of Kingstown is now like a 14-year-old.” Returning to the physicality of acting was something he really had to think about. “To try to create some truth and then get the audience to believe it, while I’m just trying to learn to walk again, to put one foot in front of the other and not get up in agony. I’m doing all these things to find my footing on the planet again. The idea of going into a fictional world — I have to be honest with you, I had to really consider, Is this something I really want to do?” The producers have adjusted their filming schedule to accommodate Renner’s limitations and needs and the actor is moving forward with a great outlook on life. “I’m alive. Demi Moore makes her debut in Cannes’ Official Selection this weekend as co-star of Competition title The Substance, and here is a first look via Deadline. Moore stars in the blood-splattered thriller with Margaret Qualley and Dennis Quaid. The Substance is the second feature from French director Coralie Fargeat, who made waves with gory thriller Revenge, which world premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. The new movie, billed as a body horror with a feminist take, revolves around a new product called ‘The Substance’ which promises to transform people into the best dream version of themselves. Sutton Foster, just off a run in Sweeney Todd, will star in a musical revival of Once Upon a Mattress on Broadway this summer. The production is a new adaptation by Amy Sherman-Palladino that debuted in a two-week engagement co-starring Michael Urie at New York City Center’s Encores in January. Directed by Lear deBessonet, Mattress will begin previews at Broadway’s Hudson Theatre on July 31, with an opening night set for August 12. The musical is an updated adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen story The Princess and the Pea and features music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller, and Marshall Barer.
